Common questions & answers

Who is Zipforce for?

Zipforce is for everyone. Perhaps you fit one of the following descriptions?

The active cyclist
With extra motor power, you can explore longer distances, climb steep hills, and enjoy long bike rides. Turn the assistance on or off as needed.

The commuter
Zipforce makes commuting to work more comfortable, smooth, and environmentally friendly. Avoid getting sweaty – or avoid the crowds on public transport.

The conscious consumer
Transform your existing bike (or a second-hand one) into an excellent e-bike – without buying a brand new one.

The family
Zipforce can easily be moved between bikes. A smart way to let more family members ride electric.

The smart one
Worried about theft? Take off the motor and carry it with you. You only risk losing your regular bike.

The motorhome/caravan owner
Bring your existing bike and Zipforce instead of heavy e-bikes on the bike rack.

The elderly
Zipforce provides an extra boost when needed and makes it easier to stay active.

Where is Zipforce mounted?

Zipforce can be mounted on both the front and rear wheel thanks to our unique quick-release bracket. The bracket is designed to fit as many bikes as possible.

Front-wheel mounting is more common, as luggage racks and mudguards are often in the way for rear-wheel mounting. If you mount it on the rear wheel, it's important to switch to "Reverse Mode" in the Zipforce app.

Does Zipforce fit my bike?

Zipforce is compatible with all bikes except those with studded tires. For best function, the tires should be relatively smooth, but coarser tires also work as long as the tread pattern is even where the motor's drive wheel makes contact.

How does the motor work?

When you pedal, a pedal sensor detects your pedaling frequency (cadence), and the motor starts – the rubber wheel that rests against the bike's tire spins and propels the bike forward.

How far can I cycle?

With Zipforce Distance, the battery lasts up to 70 km if you pedal quite a lot. With full assistance during normal cycling, it lasts about 35 km.

Zipforce Slim has a shorter range: up to 40 km with your own pedaling, about 20 km with full assistance.

All Zipforce motors have regenerative braking that charges the battery. Activated by back-pedaling and can be turned on/off in the app.

How fast can I cycle?

Electric bikes are legally limited to 25 km/h, and this also applies to Zipforce. At higher speeds, the motor stops assisting, but you can still cycle faster with your own power.

How does Zipforce work?

Zipforce is a portable electric motor that you mount on the front or rear wheel of your regular bicycle. When you want to cycle, you simply click Zipforce into the mounted bracket. With additional brackets, you can move the motor between different bicycles.

What happens if my Zipforce breaks down?

Contact our Customer Support who will make an initial assessment as to whether your unit should be repaired or replaced. We will email you a return shipping label. If the product is under warranty, we will fix it – if it cannot be repaired, we will send a replacement product. If the warranty has expired, we will provide you with a cost estimate.

Can I buy spare parts?

We manufacture Zipforce in Sweden and usually have spare parts in stock. Contact our Customer Support and we will help you.

What do I do about the bike basket?

Most bike baskets work well with Zipforce. We sell a bracket that raises the bike basket if it sits too close to the tire.

What happens to my returned Zipforce?

We ensure that functional components are reused and other parts are recycled appropriately. From these, we create Refurbished units that undergo rigorous quality control and are offered at a reduced price. Our ambition is to maximize reuse to reduce environmental impact.

How long is the charging time?

The Distance model takes approximately 4 hours to fully charge. The Slim model takes 2.5 hours.

Important information about charging

Charging should only be done with the included 4A 25.2V charger. Connect the charger to the Zipforce before connecting it to the wall outlet. The charger lights up green when fully charged and red when charging.

It is normal for the charger to get warm. Do not charge near flammable materials. Disconnect the charger after charging is complete and do not leave charging unattended. Do not charge in freezing temperatures or high temperatures.

Contact Zipforce if you suspect damage to the battery or if the unit has been exposed to external impact.

How loud is Zipforce?

The noise level has been significantly reduced in current models thanks to a new chassis and new motor. The sound primarily depends on tire type and age – a smoother, newer tire is quieter. Weather conditions can also affect it.

How do I adjust the assistance level?

The assistance level is set with a knob on the unit or via the Zipforce app.

Is Zipforce safe and water-resistant?

Zipforce is water-resistant and handles rain well. The product is CE-marked according to the e-bike directive 2017 and meets the same sealing requirements as all e-bikes.

What warranties are included?

Your Zipforce has a two-year warranty and a 30-day return policy.

Can I change the battery?

We use Li-ion cells, and the battery can handle 1,000 full charge cycles with continued good performance. Contact Customer Support if you need to replace the battery.

What is the climate footprint of Zipforce?

A petrol car emits approximately 271 g CO₂e per passenger kilometer. Zipforce Slim and Distance emit 6.5 and 7.09 g CO₂e per kilometer, respectively.

Zipforce Slim has a manufacturing footprint of 29.3 kg CO₂e and Distance 40.3 kg. The recycling rate is 80–90%.

How does the Zipforce app work?

The app can be downloaded from Google Play or the App Store. You can view speed, distance, cadence, and statistics, as well as make settings.

  1. Download the app and turn on Zipforce. Wait until the light comes on.
  2. Open the app, tap Scan, and select your device (Zipforce_xxxx).
  3. Enter the default code 1234. The code can be changed under "Set pin".
  4. You can lower the maximum speed to, for example, 14 km/h if you prefer.
  5. Reset the password: set the knob to minimum in the off position, turn on the unit, and immediately turn the knob to maximum and then back to minimum. The unit will flash blue and red when complete.
